Catholic firm designs new archdiocesan website

The Archdiocese of San Francisco has launched a more user-friendly, dependable and affordable website with the help of a Catholic web design firm, eCatholic. The site at www.sfarch.org went live Oct. 27, replacing the “visually dated and technologically limited” launched eight years ago, assistant communications director Jan Potts said.

The communications department hired eCatholic, which specializes in affordable website design, hosting and support for dioceses and parishes, based on positive referrals from other dioceses. The site is designed specifically for Catholic users.

“Their whole ethos is Catholic,” Potts said. “When you deal with them every phone call starts with a prayer.”

Visitors to the home page will find a better search function and, by clicking on “shortcuts” at the bottom of the page, a parish and school finder featuring a satellite map.

The site’s content includes new pages on Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone’s consecration of the archdiocese to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Potts called them a “tremendous resource as we try to live up to the archbishop’s three-point call to action.”

During the Oct. 7 consecration marking the centenary of Our Lady of Fatima, the archbishop encouraged Catholics to pray the rosary daily, observe penance on Fridays and regularly attend adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Visitor feedback is encouraged at comms@sfarch.org.
