16 Peschiera_Msgr. Bruno THUMBMsgr. Bruno Peschiera, who had served the Italian Catholic population of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and surrounding dioceses for several decades, died Dec. 29. He was 87 years old and a priest of the Archdiocese of Lucca, Italy, for 63 years.

“(Msgr. Peschiera) created an Italian American Center in Pacifica for first-generation Italians from Lucca, and with permission from Archbishop (John R.) Quinn, following the norms of canon law and regulations from the Sacred Congregation on Liturgy in Rome, he established an Oratory to provide spiritual help to the Italian people with whom he worked,” the archdiocese said in a statement. The late priest maintained a home in the boundaries of Good Shepherd Parish, Pacifica. Pope John Paul II named him monsignor through the Archdiocese of Lucca in 2004.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 6 at Church of the Good Shepherd with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma.
